Do you have flood insurance? It’s important to know that this type of financial protection is not commonly a component of home insurance. If you haven’t purchased a separate flood insurance policy, you’ll need to do that to protect your assets in instances of loss like this. Once you have flood insurance, what it covers may depend on the details of the actual plan. Most flood insurance policies are extensive and are there to help you when and if you are faced with a flood. You could lose a great deal of belongings in a flood. And, without the financial support from a plan like this, you may have to pay out of pocket to cover those losses.

Can It Help Cover Your Vehicle?

If a flood comes through your area and it is documented as such, your coverage could go into effect. Most policies should not cover cars themselves in this type of risk. If you have auto insurance coverage, including comprehensive auto coverage that may cover your vehicle from risks like this (unless it is excluded on your plan). However, your home insurance coverage and standard flood insurance is unlikely to do so.

It’s important to read through your policy, though. In some instances, vehicles may be a part of the coverage. However, most of the time, it only covers items that are left within the building itself and the structure of that building. Even if your vehicle is stored within your garage, though, it may still not have this type of financial protection to safeguard its value. If you own a non-working or collector vehicle, work with your insurance provider to make sure you have the right type of insurance protection on those vehicles. That can make a big difference here.

Flood insurance can be very helpful to most property owners. It helps protect the building, its foundation, and most of your belongings within it. And, in the long term it can also help you to keep your finances in order when a storm like this comes through the area. Do not go without flood insurance especially in high risk areas. Modify your plan instead to include your vehicles to keep them protected as well.
